Sussex County Cricket Club Academy bowler George Garton has been shortlisted in the England Under-19 squad to face their Australian counterparts during this Ashes summer. Garton is in the squad to play a  four-day fixture against the Australian Under 19 team at Durham on 5 August.

In 2014, Sussex CCC established a three-year sponsorship deal with Aldridge, Sir Rod Aldridge’s private family organisation, to support their Academy and their Women’s and Girls’ teams. This sponsorship deal was struck to further strengthen the unique partnership between Sussex CCC, the Aldridge Cricket Academy (ACA) and the Brighton and Portslade Aldridge Community Academies (BACA and PACA), two of the schools sponsored by the Aldridge Foundation, Sir Rod’s educational charity.

The ACA provides specific and intensive cricket coaching programmes for male and female cricketers at Sixth Form level, delivered by a dedicated coaching team.

Brighton-born Garton already has experience with the Sussex Second Eleven and the 18 year-old Hurstpierpoint College student will be looking to make an impact at the Riverside next month.

Sussex County Cricket Club Chairman, Jim May, said: “We are very pleased with the Aldridge sponsorship of the Sussex Cricket Academy, and it is fantastic to see this support bearing fruit with one of our players being shortlisted for such a prestigious international match”

Good luck George!
